Website launch checklist: 15 things to check before going live

From texts and forms to redirects, privacy policy and Search Console: the checklist we go through before every launch of a Swiss website.

Content

  1. Spelling and names are checked. German texts for Switzerland use "ss" instead of "ß".
  2. Every page has a clear title and a meta description.
  3. Every meaningful image has an alt text.

Devices

  1. The site is tested on real phones, tablets and laptops.
  2. Menus and forms work with the keyboard.
  1. There are no broken links.
  2. Every form reaches the right inbox and confirms that it was sent.

Search and sharing

  1. Old addresses redirect to the new pages.
  2. The sitemap and robots.txt are in place.
  3. Every page has a preview image for sharing (Open Graph).
  4. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are set up and the sitemap is submitted.

Speed and analytics

  1. Images are compressed and pages load quickly on a phone.
  2. If you use analytics, your privacy policy says so.
  1. The site shows your company details (an imprint) and a privacy policy. For online shops, clear company and contact details are required by Swiss law, and they help every company build trust.

Domain

  1. The domain points to the new site, SSL works, the www and non www addresses lead to the same place, and the "noindex" tag used during development is removed.

We go through this list with every Website Sprint before launch. For the search side in more detail, read GEO: how AI search finds your website.

Questions and answers

Do I need a cookie banner in Switzerland?

Not in every case. Swiss law asks you to inform visitors, usually in your privacy policy. If your site also targets visitors in the EU, stricter EU rules can apply. When in doubt, ask a legal expert.

Why set up Bing Webmaster Tools as well?

Bing’s index is used by more than Bing itself, including Microsoft Copilot. It takes a few minutes and makes your site easier to find in more places.
